Members of the Philippine Army’s 30th Infantry Battalion clashed with more or less 15 fully-armed Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) in Sitio Tigbao, Barangay Balite, San Francisco, Surigao del Sur on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

AFP troops captured an M16 rifle, two anti-personnel mines, assorted ammunition, medical kit, half-sack of rice, ponchos, backpacks, batteries, electrical tester, mess kits, electrical wire, personal belongings, and subversive documents.

The operation was conducted after concerned civilians reported the presence of the armed group who were conducting extortion activities in the area.

The 30IB’s Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Charles Callanta expressed his gratitude to the civilians who reported the enemy’s presence.

“We are grateful for the trust and support of our citizens who shared information about the armed group’s presence, and their active cooperation in our campaign to fight terrorism. This only shows that our people are rejecting disorder and abuse caused by the CNT’s threats and extortion activities,” he said. — PA
