PH Navy, together with other gov’t agencies, rescues Swedish-Iranian national at sea

Intelligence operatives from the Navy, Army and NICA IX, together with Navy SEALS from Naval Forces Western Mindanao and troops from Joint Task Force Basilan successfully rescued one foreign national in the vicinity of Sibago Island, Mohammad Ajul, Basilan on June 25, 2022.

According to NFWM PAO, the foreigner, who was identified through his Swedish and Iranian passports as Amir Sarkarifari, was aboard his yatch which encountered engine trouble while cruising from Guam to Brunei.

Accordingly, residents of the island noticed a yacht drifting towards their direction prompting them to approach the yatch and extend help. The authorities were notified of the incident causing Naval Forces Western Mindanao to dispatch MPAC BA487 with government troops and agents on board.

The yacht was towed to Naval Station Romulo Espaldon. The foreign national underwent medical examination at a local military hospital. He was also interviewed by agents from the Bureau of Immigration IX and other concerned security units to confirm his identity and other activities while in the country. — PN
