Troops of the 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, seized five high-powered firearms hidden by Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) in Davao De Oro on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Combined elements from the 25th and 28th Infantry Battalions under 1001st Brigade, and from Davao De Oro Police Provincial Office, unearthed four M16 rifles and an M14 rifle in Barangay New Leyte, Maco town.

The location of the arms cache was revealed by former CNT leaders of a dismantled Guerilla Front who all surrendered last June 10 to the units under 10ID.

According to 10ID Commander Major General Nolasco Mempin, the cooperation of the former rebels was a clear manifestation of their trust and confidence in the soldiers.

“These firearms must be seized for us to ensure that these weapons cannot be used again in sowing terror and violence to our people,” he added.

Davao De Oro was officially declared an Insurgency-Free province on June 22 after all eight NPA Guerilla Fronts in the area were dismantled. — AFP
