Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division (4ID) troopers for their prompt response that saved lives and prevented further damage to properties in the early morning fire that hit the ammunitions complex at Camp Edilberto Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on July 12, 2022.

Lt. Gen. Brawner flew to the 4ID headquarters to personally check the situation in the camp following the fire incident. He also held a press conference with 4ID Commander Maj. Gen. Wilbur C. Mamawag to apprise the media about developments regarding the said incident.

The Army Chief, in the press conference, assured transparency and full cooperation of the Philippine Army in the probe on the ammunitions complex fire. “We assure transparency in the investigation to prevent similar dangerous and costly incidents from happening in the future,” Lt. Gen. Brawner told reporters, as he gave assurance that the Army’s ammunition handling systems are up to par with international standards.

The Army Chief said that the Philippine Army will cooperate with the Bureau of Fire Protection, the PNP Scene of the Crime Operatives and other specialists who will look into the incident. He said that the investigation will start once the area is cleared of residual fires and unexploded ordnances.

The CGPA also assured continued assistance to displaced families who are now sheltered at the 4ID gymnasium and Barangay Patag-covered court. The Army will also shoulder the medical expenses of three slightly injured residents who are now in stable condition at the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital for treatment, according to Maj. Gen. Mamawag. — PA
