Operating troops of the 65th Infantry “Stalwart” Battalion under the operational control of the 901st Infantry “Fight Em” Brigade, neutralized a CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) in Sta. Cruz, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur on July 22, 2022.
Troops of 65IB were on security operation when the troops engaged in a firefight with more less 10 CNTs operating in the area of Sibagat and Bayugan City both in Agusan del Sur that lasted for about 15 minutes before the terrorists withdrew leaving behind their dead comrade.
The said operation was based on the collective information received by this unit from the local populace of said barangay. According to the locals, the CNTs came down from the mountains asking for food supplies. With this, 65IB launched its security operation to ensure the safety and protection of the residents.
After the encounter, troops were able to clear and secure the area and monitor the presence of fleeing enemy and probable route. The cadaver was turned over to Sibagat Police station for proper disposition and coordination to inform the family.
“This yet another meaningless death of a NPA terrorist would not have occurred if only they heeded the governments call for them to surrender and avail the benefits of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP). Our troops will not stop until the communities in our area will be freed from NPA terrorists’ harassment and intimidation,” said Lt. Col. Emerson P. De Vera, 65IB Commanding Officer. — PA
