With the commencement of the sea phase of the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the embarked Agusta Westland 109 helicopter of BRP Antonio Luna FF151 – PF participated in the conduct of the Combined Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercise (CASEX) on Wednesday, July 14, 2022.
During this exercise, personnel onboard a surface or air asset were tasked and trained to recognize a submarine maneuvering broached and submerged at periscope depth.
The Naval Air Wing – Philippine Fleet AW109 helicopter is among the more than 170 aircrafts currently participating in RIMPAC in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. — PN
