Troops of the Philippine Army’s 29th Infantry Battalion (29IB) discovered an arms cache of the communist NPA terrorist (CNT) while conducting combat operation in Brgy Bangonay, Jabonga, Agusan Del Norte on July 20, 2022.

Col. Jason M. Saldua, Commanding Officer of 29IB, said that a concerned civilian reported the presence of communist terrorists in the area who were periodically extorting from the residents of Sitio Inayao of the said barangay.

The troops found an arms cache buried on the ground composed of one AK47 rifle, one M4 Carbine rifle, one M16 rifle, one Bushmaster rifle with two magazines, 30 meters of firing wire, and one Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The CNTs are using IEDs as an anti-personnel mine which is violative of international humanitarian law (IHL).

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the peace-loving residents of Sitio Inayao for tipping us the location and activities of the terrorists in the area,” Col Saldua said.

He added that the information provided by the residents would further weaken the CTG’s capability to conduct atrocities in the province of Agusan del Norte. — PA
