More high-powered firearms of the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) were captured by government forces in Sitio Desikit, Barangay Laconon, Tboli, South Cotabato on the evening of July 24, 2022.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Zandro Alvez, Battalion Commander of the 5th Special Forces Battalion, the soldiers found the cache with the help of alias Bambam, a former member of Guerilla Front Musa operating in the province. They seized 5.56mm M16A1 rifle and a caliber .38 revolver.

Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong, Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) Central, said the military operations launched by the troops in Sultan Kudarat, boundaries of Lake Sebu and T’boli in South Cotabato, and Saranggani Province forced the CNTs to hide their firearms through their trusted contacts or in marked cache points to evade government forces and preserve their remaining strength.

“Although we have decreased the number of Guerilla Fronts, the challenges are still there, but we are confident that we can attain an insurgency-free region in Central and South-Central Mindanao,” Maj. Gen. Capulong said. — AFP
