The Philippine Army’s 6th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG) through the 603rd Capiz Community Defense Center’s search, rescue, and retrieval (SRR) team conducted the orientation training and practical exercises for the 493 Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadet officers at Camp Hernandez, Dingle, Iloilo on August 1, 2022.
The ROTC officers came from the private and state colleges and universities in Western Visayas that are presently undergoing the ROTC Summer Camp Training.
Among the training exercises were Basic Life Support, Water Search and Rescue, Rope Rescue Techniques and Tactical Casualty Care & Evacuation. The training equipped the ROTC cadets with the skills and knowledge of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) as well as Medics as they are the primary responders in their localities when calamities and disasters strike.
The Army leadership recognized the 603rd CDC for capacitating the ROTC cadets through training exercises especially since the proposed revival of the ROTC program will be mandatory among senior high school students as this bolsters the country’s disaster response. — PA
