Former MILF Commander returns to the fold of the law

Camp Lucero, Carmen, Cotabato – The 602nd Brigade together with Pikit LGU formally accepted laying down of arms of Commander Buto Sanday, a former Brigade Commander of BIAF-MILF.

On June 16, 2020, Commander Buto Sanday voluntarily submitted himself to BGEN ROBERTO S CAPULONG AFP, Commander of 602nd Infantry (Liberator) Brigade and LTC MICHAEL D MAQUILAN INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of 90th Infantry Battalion, 6ID at Headquarters 602nd Brigade for the sake of peace in Pikit.

Commander Buto Sanday is a former Brigade Commander of BIAF-MILF who was officially terminated last May 12, 2020 by the MILF leadership after his alleged involvement from several armed conflicts in the adjacent areas of Pagalungan, Maguindanao and Pikit, Cotabato. He has not been in good relationship with Commander Ricky Kusain Jr and some MILF Commanders of Eastern Mindanao Front, BIAF resulting in numerous armed conflicts that severely affected the lives of civilians in the area.

One M16 A1 Rifle was turned over by Cmdr Sanday to BGEN ROBERTO S CAPULONG and Sumulong K. Sultan, Mayor of Pikit, Cotabato as a gesture of his commitment to peace and support to the government.

MGEN DIOSDADO C CARREON AFP, Commander of 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division believes that the return of Cmdr Buto will significantly improved the peace and order in Pikit. He also lauded the troops for successfully bringing Cmdr Buto to the folds of the law.

“With this challenging situation brought about by pandemic crisis, your JTF Central will continue to sustain the peace and order in the area while we work together to fight the COVID-19.” MGEN CARREON said stressed.

This accomplishment is part of the Brigade’s sincere effort to bring peace and development in its area of operation. The 602nd Brigade has once again demonstrated the essence of working together with MILF, CCCH, AHJAG and other stakeholders will result in achieving the desired endstate with minimal resources and damage to private property.
