Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay met the Philippine Navy Flag Officer-in-Command, Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo on October 15, 2020, at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The courtesy call of the Navy Chief to General Gapay after the latter was appointed as the AFP Chief of Staff last August and recently promoted to the rank of General last week. The two senior officials already met last March when General Gapay was the Commanding General of the Philippine Army (CGPA) and Vice Admiral Bacordo was the newly appointed Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy.

During the call, General Gapay recalled and thanked how the Philippine Navy through the leadership of Vice-Admiral Bacordo contributed to the mission accomplishment of the Philippine Army during his incumbency as the CGPA.

The call reaffirmed and strengthened the interoperability and jointness of the Navy with the General Headquarters and major services, the Army, and Air Force. This is in line with the AFP Chief’s thrust on operational effectiveness and organizational efficiency, urging everyone to continue to exert utmost effort and dedication in the performance of respective tasks towards the accomplishment of the AFP’s mandate.

“Let us do our part individually, collectively, and as an organization to provide the environment for lasting peace and security,” General Gapay said.

In return, General Gapay assured Vice Admiral Bacordo of the Command’s support to the ongoing modernization program of the Navy.

“As we perform our mandate, I also enjoin everyone to observe to the highest standards of excellence and professionalism as we perform while we transform to becoming a world-class Armed Forces,” General Gapay concluded. — Press release courtesy of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
