Military troops discovered an arms cache disclosed by two communist terrorists who previously yielded in Zamboanga del Norte.
According to WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. the troops from the 97th Infantry Battalion recovered five AK-47 assault rifles, and assorted magazines and ammunitions from the arms cache at Sitio Makinaryas, Barangay Bunawan, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte in the morning of October 17, 2020.
“The couple, who were known as Larry and Grace, previously disclosed the location of hidden arms cache after they yielded to the 97th Infantry Battalion,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. narrated.
Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added that the recovered war materials were being used by the communist terrorist group but were subsequently buried due to an insufficient supply of ammunition.
“They also lack manpower due to the loss the group suffered during the recent armed confrontations with the government forces,” the commander added.
The firearms are temporarily placed under the custody of 97IB for documentation and processing.
“We expect more communist terrorists to return to the fold of the law before the year ends,” said Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander.
The recovered firearms will then be turned over to the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Police Office (ZNPPO) for the remuneration process under the E-CLIP.
