In line with the intensified implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in Tawi-Tawi, Mindanao, naval forces and air assets of Western Mindanao Command continues to conduct maritime security patrol in the area.
The said move is also targeted to ensure safety and security of people in the said island, which according to the 2015 census has a population of 390,715 people.
The maritime and air surveillance also augment the efforts of other government agencies to secure the seawaters from illegal entry.
In addition to this, the Philippine Navy forces also safeguards Tawi-Tawi from possible transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from external factors and contamination from nearby areas and islands like Zamboanga, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
