The Western Mindanao Command Chief led the groundbreaking cermony of the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict project in Barangay Bunawan, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte, Tuesday morning, June 2, 2020.
The Construction of Lined Canals, Installation of RCPC Cross Drains and other Erosion Control Structures of Bunawan – Sitio Makinaryas – San Pedro Road worth 4.5 Million Pesos sourced from the Development Fund of Godod will protect the recently rehabilitated and opened road project of the municipality.
In his message, Hon Abel Matildo, Mayor and Chairman of the MTF-ELCAC said that, “this is the realization of the project requested by the community during the implementation of the Community Support Program of the Army in the barangay.”
“This aims to improve the lives and increase revenue of the community by providing farm to market roads for easy access of their produce from their farms to the market,” Matildo added.
During the program, the local government also conducted ceremonial turn-over of relief packs for the COVID-19 crisis and materials for the Water System Project in Sitio Makinaryas of the same barangay.
For his part, LtGen Cirilito Sobejana, Commander, Western Mindanao Command emphasized the greater role of the locals in protecting the impelmentation of these projects.
“We in the Armed Forces, while we are mandated to secure everybody, including your properties, I do believe that security is everybody’s responsibility. It is a shared responsibility,” said LtGen Sobejana.
“Through these projects coupled with good livelihood programs of the different agencies of the governement, I think we can solve the security problem that we have today without firing a single shot ” Lt Gen Sobejana added.
Also present during the activity were MajGen Generoso Ponio, Commander, 1st Infantry Division; Hon Isagani Amatong, Representative, 3rd Congressional District; Col Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade; Dir Radd Donn L Cedeño, Regional Executive Director, RO9 Department of Agriculture; LtCol Don Templonuevo, Commanding Officer, 44th Infantry Battalion; Cpt Haran Ulah, Chief, Godod Municipal Police Station; other local government officials and department heads.
