Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur – The Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) Chairperson Gov. Victor J. Yu visited the Headquarters of the 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion, Camp Major David P Sabido, Poblacion last Tuesday.
The purpose of his visit is to strengthen the collaboration and convergence of the provincial government to address the
local communist armed conflict in its area of responsibility (AOR).
Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, 53rd IB Commander, sits as one of the Chairpersons of the Peace, Law Enforcement, and Development Support (PLEDS) Cluster of PTF-ELCAC.
The PLEDS Cluster regularly conducts interagency operations against the atrocities of the Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs) and to weaken its support structure in order to contribute to the primary objectives of the NTF-ELCAC.
In his speech, Gov. Yu stressed why road developments are necessary to address communist insurgency, as it allows a faster and easier delivery of basic services to the people.
“I am always saying that we need to give premium on our roads, then everything else will follow,” said Gov. Yu.
“The construction of roads especially those leading to hinterland (Barangays) will facilitate the easy delivery of basic services and government programs such as electricity, water system, health, education, and serbisyo caravans,” Gov. Yu added.
He added that in partnership with different local government agencies (LGAs), the programs laid down for Former Rebels such as programs for livelihood, farming, livestock raising, and skills development.
Lt. Col. Herrera, in response, told the PTF-ELCAC Chairperson of the unit’s support to provincial initiatives in addressing the insurgency and also reassured him of the unit’s commitment to end local communist terrorism in the province.
“We will remain steadfast in doing the Army’s mandate to serving the people and securing the land, exhibiting the values of Honor, Patriotism, and Duty on all of our endeavors,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
Lt. Col. Herrera also highlighted the need for the conduct of coastal security operations to prevent criminal groups in their illegal activities.
In his visit, Gov. Yu awarded selected personnel and CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAAs) for their invaluable contributions to the peace and security of the province.
